At the Oct 24 checkpoint Tampa Bay trailed 0-1 after a 3-2 Game 1 loss. The Rays then led Game 2 by 4-0 behind Rasmussen before losing 5-4 on Oct 24, falling to 0-2 with the October average at .230 across 11 games. Confidence cooled because the lead got away, not because the 98-win formula changed on paper.
Down 0-2 after a 5-4 collapse in Milwaukee on Oct 24, the 98-win Rays are a proven close-game club suddenly out of margin. Third baseman Junior Caminero still owns the swing that can drag this World Series back to Florida alive.
Watch Rasmussen command early, whether Hicks and Caminero bat with men aboard, and whether Baker gets a clean ninth with a lead in the first home date Oct 26. Traffic plus length tells if Florida becomes a comeback or a eulogy.
A third straight loss fueled by another short start and double-digit strikeouts would break the tight-game case. An official multigame loss of Caminero, Hicks, Rasmussen or Martinez would break it even faster.
